Jaguar Overwatch Earns First National Championship Appearance
The members of the Jaguar Overwatch team, part of A&M-San Antonio’s esports program, reached a new milestone as they competed in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) National Championship in Orlando, Florida.
The Jaguars earned their place after battling through NACE's highly competitive Super Conference and securing a berth during the league's last-chance qualifying tournament with victories over the University of South Florida and Cleveland State University.
The national appearance marks the program's second consecutive postseason appearance and its first trip to the national top eight, underscoring the rapid growth of esports at A&M-San Antonio.
Now in its sixth year, the University's esports program fields six varsity teams — Overwatch, Valorant, Super Smash Bros., Chess, Call of Duty and League of Legends — giving students opportunities to compete at the highest collegiate level.
