First Vice President for Research

In July, Guido Verbeck joined A&M-San Antonio as its first-ever vice president for research, marking a significant step in the University’s growth as a doctoral-granting institution.  

Verbeck brings more than two decades of research leadership experience and an internationally recognized background in mass spectrometry and instrument design. His research portfolio includes more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and more than $6 million in external funding.  

He previously served as associate dean of research and graduate studies in the College of Science and Mathematics and chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Augusta University in Georgia.   

In his new role, Verbeck will lead the Division of Research and Innovation, strengthen research infrastructure, and expand opportunities for faculty innovation, industry partnerships, and student research experiences.  

His appointment supports A&M-San Antonio’s continued momentum toward becoming a nationally recognized research institution.
